4 Seasons Club History

The property on which the course now sits, enjoyed its humble beginnings as the personal estate & nine hole golf course, of an eccentric gent by the name of R G Roy in the 1960’s - 1970’s, until his passing and the estate sale.  The property sat untouched and vacant for many years thereafter, while at that same time, surrounding land was also being expropriated for the newly proposed Toronto International Airport, in 1973.

In late 1979, Murray Carson purchased the property, which at the time was only 88 acres.  From there an extensive gradual overhaul of the land, making valuable use of the natural lay of the land and existing clubhouse began; with Murray’s young family working alongside.  Murray, coming out of the trade of custom home building, working alongside famous architects and having no golfing experience or real knowledge of the game of golf built and designed the course. It opened on July 1, 1985; maple leaf flags waving to celebrate Canada’s Birthday along with the birth of what you play today, 4 Seasons Country Club.

Years to follow, further land was acquired to extend the course on holes # 12 and #13; along with the purchase of a 5000 sq’ tent to accommodate larger events up to 200 guests throughout the summer months.  With the new millennium came many other course improvements; the addition of several ponds and mounds to separate some of the fairways (known today as Murray’s mounds); and even more recently, renovations where done on several tee decks in the valley of the course.

4 Seasons Country Club, offers a uniqueness of natural mature beauty; many clientele refer to us as “The Prettiest Course in Durham”.

The course today continues to be run by the immediate family members; Murray, Paul & Karen who are all involved in the day to day operations;  and now with the third generation starting to become more actively involved in the daily operation of the club also. Truly a family affair!
